While Brian played in the Canadian Football League, Kim raised their 4 kids, had a career in Real Estate sales and 14 years of management with a small boutique hotels and Starbucks.

Sherburne Inn reveals the secret of memorable beds

Room8-2

What better place to turn for the definition of a well-made bed than the Innkeeper of The Sherburne Inn located at the top rated summer destination of Nantucket Island.

Susan Daniels, proprietor of the 8-room B&B, a consistent winner of TripAdvisor’s Award of Excellence, will tell you that her beds need to be:

o   Enticing

o   Ultra comfortable

o   Inviting

o   Memorable

Susan greets over 1,000 guests from all over the world each season and says her beds attract more compliments than almost any other part  of her visitor’s stay.

Here’s her formula:

  •  Start with a pleasing, well-made bed frame.  (The bed frames at the Sherburne Inn are all mahonganey, some with elaborate carving and others with four posters)
  • to that add a box spring base topped with a firm, Serta mattress. Sometimes a bed skirt is added before the firm mattress.
  • Next a removable feather bed topper is added stuffed with hypo allergenic alternative down
  • Now add a fitted mattress protector pad – water resistant
  • A hand-ironed fitted bottom sheet is added – solid color (Susan uses white or beige)
  • A hand-ironed lace or decorative border flat top sheet is next—making sure it is long enough to tuck into the foot of the bed between the mattress and the box spring and give a 12” fold over the blanket and coverlet that is added next
  • Then come the pillows – 4 standard-size sleeping pillows for queen beds and 4 king size pillows for the king beds. Each pillow case is hand-ironed and lightly starched, each has a decorative trim matching the border of the top flat sheet.
  •  At least one, preferably a variety of different shapes and size colorful accent pillows are added to emphasize the enticing element that is so important to our beds.
  • Finally, an alternative down stuffed, puffy comforter folded at the foot of the bed!

The keys to our success are:

  • Unusual, appealing, unique bed frames
  • Feather bed topper that adds so much to a comfortable night’s sleep
  • Hand-ironed, top quality sheets with a decorative border or trim
  • Maticulous attention to detail

Come experience a well-made bed that is enticing, ultra comfortable, inviting and memorable by booking a few nights at the award-winning Sherburne Inn, Nantucket and bring someone special with you to share this experience.
