Sherburne Inn Guest Spotlight: “Ringing out 2011″
The 2011 Season concludes on a romantic note!
On a sunny mid-December Saturday afternoon, Ben from Newberryport, MA proposed to Christine!
Ben planned a champagne picnic at Madakat Beach, but changed his plan slightly when snow flurries were predicted. At Brant Point Lighthouse snuggled in the rocks with the lighthouse for wind protection, Ben asked the question on bended knee.
A very happy Christine said, ” yes!”
The newly engaged couple spent the rest of the afternoon celebrating at Cisco Brewery followed by dinner at LoLa’s with a stop in between at the Inn to show me the beautiful, sparkling diamond ring.
A joyful occasion to windup our 4th season as Innkeepers/Owners of the Sherburne Inn!
Sherburne Inn Spotlight Guests: Celebrating a 30th Wedding Anniversary
Tom & Lisa celebrating 30th wedding Anniversary
Lisa has “always wanted to visit Nantucket”. Her wish was granted when Tom made arrangements for them to travel from Dallas, TX to visit the Island this September as an anniversary gift. They were delighted to have just lucked into planning a late September stay at the Sherburne Inn having no idea it was Restaurant Week, that the throngs of tourists had thinned out, yet all the attractions, restaurants, and shops were open, or that the mid day sun was still warm but the evenings considerably cooler.
Since Lisa wasn’t really “a Bed&Breakfast kind of person”, Tom first thought of renting a house for their four-day visit. The online search was overwhelming and the couple decided to look into small in-town Inns for accommodations instead. Attracted by the Sherburne Inn’s informative and attractive website, they booked room #4 “Love At First Sight”.
Each one of their four full days on Nantucket seemed to be filled with adventure and discovery, either by rented Jeep or rented bicycles, followed by “outstandingly delicious” dinners at our neighborhood restaurants. Among the standouts they enjoyed were Straight Wharf for the actual anniversary dinner, Black Eyed Susan’s, Centre St. Bistro, the fish stew at the Brotherhood of Thieves, and lobster salad at Sayles Seafoods overlooking the Creeks.
When asked about their favorite memory of their first visit to Nantucket, Lisa spoke right up with a smile on her face as she described being at Cisco Beach when the fog rolled in so thickly that they had to follow their own footsteps back to their Jeep. “We just don’t get fog back in Dallas”.
Smitten by Nantucket’s extraordinary natural beauty as well as our neighborhood’s most wonderful restaurants, perhaps we have a convert to the B&B experience as well. Lisa was complimentary about the professionalism at the Sherburne Inn and appreciated the Breakfast Baskets that they enjoyed together in their room. We hope they will come back for many more anniversary celebrations!
Nantucket in September
We might not tell you where our favorite Nantucket beach is, but we will let you in on the best kept secret about Nantucket!
Here it is…
September is the best month of the year on Nantucket!
For decades all the summer visitors to the Island left by Labor Day thinking that they had experienced the best of Nantucket. We weren’t about to correct them as we wanted our Island back for ourselves. We didn’t dare let them know the “September Secret”. As Islanders we even had a coveted mantra we greeted each other with at the beginning of each season, “See you in September”, wink, wink! That would get us through each intense summer season. Little by little the “September secret” leaked out, and now it’s prime time on the Island.
So many factors converge to make Nantucket a perfect Autumn location…
Warm sunny days, cool, crisp evenings, with clear skies filled with puffy clouds by day and billions of stars at night. Nantucket Sound water temperature is a perfect 68-72 and the Ocean water temperatures are slightly colder. Reservations for dinner are recommended, but not necessary. All the shops, galleries, museums are open and in full swing with interesting and entertaining programs. And there are parking spaces on Main Street, and everyone has a smile on his face! How sweet is that!
The Sherburne Inn, open year round, welcomes guests to the island every September. We have prime accommodations still available for the last two weeks of September. Each of our guest rooms is uniquely decorated offering a queen or king bed, four fluffy sleeping pillows and duvet, private bath, central AC, wireless Internet, and the famous Sherburne Inn breakfast basket delivered to your door each morning. Come experience Nantucket at it’s finest and stay with us. We look forward to your arrival!

Sherburne Inn Guest Spotlight: Celebrating a Family Fourth!
Three generations of the Beh Family gathered to celebrate the fourth of July weekend at the Sherburne Inn. Brian and Jessica are expecting their first baby in October which will make Grandmother Jean a great grandmother, Karen a great-Aunt, sixteen year old, Mikayla an Aunt, and Kathy and Dean grandparents for the first time!
This was not the first visit to Nantucket for most of the seven family members from the Rochester, NY area. Fond memories of Island summers brought them back to enjoy this family get together which included plenty of beach time, sightseeing and dining. They took full advantage of the Inn’s parlors, deck and garden to enjoy each other.
The Ship’s Inn seemed to be their favorite dinner spot, but watching the fireworks while dining at the Rope Walk at the end of Straight Wharf made for a spectacular evening.
Congratulations to the Beh family! It was our pleasure getting to know each of you while you shared family ties and got reacquainted with our unique Island. Many thanks to Kathy for making arrangements with us for this multi-generational gathering. It was a stand-out event in our Innkeeper’s log of memorable happenings.

Sherburne Inn Guest Spotlight: Home Away From Home
“A Home Away From Home” is what June and Celeste call Room #8 at the Sherburne Inn . When asked why, the pair from Fairfield County, CT explained how they discovered Nantucket just recently. Airplane travel had become a hassle, so they began to explore vacation possibilities closer to home. Celeste and June had heard good things about Nantucket Island and decided to give it a try – outstanding restaurants; quaint, charming accommodations; historic romanticism; and miles and miles of natural beauty sounded ideal. On their third visit to the Sherburne Inn, and with the assistance of the Inn’s staff, they knew the basics of getting around and in and out of town, but were particularly enchanted with the nature walks they discovered just a few blocks away from the Inn.
A Cardinal became their alarm clock each morning, their private balcony became a welcomed retreat after a full day of nature trail walking, and they had a knack for selecting restaurants – the cherry on the top of an ideal day!
We weren’t at all disappointed when their recent visit came to an end because Celeste booked an August visit just before departure. They will be celebrating June’s 60th Birthday and a 30- year anniversary. So instead of “Good-bye”, we said, “ See you in August”! We can’t wait to welcome them back to their “Home Away From Home” – Room #8 at the Sherburne Inn.
Sherburne Inn Guest Spotlight: She Said “Yes”!
Sherburne Inn guests, TJ and Sarah became engaged on a beautiful, romantic Thursday evening just before the Figawi sailors took over the Island last weekend.
TJ planed dinner at Galley Beach, a Nantucket restaurant known for it’s romantic sunset ambience for Sarah’s birthday. Champagne and a special dessert menu were arranged for the couple.
Sarah’s menu had a dessert offering added just for her…
“A Slice of Happiness
Sarah, will you marry me? I love you!” TJ
After she read, and re-read the extra special dessert addition, she said, “Yes”!
A summer 2012 wedding is being planned in Richmond, VA. Congratulations to Sarah and TJ!
